teesside university receives award winning positive feedback from students

Teesside University is in the running to scoop three prestigious awards following positive feedback from its own students.

The University has been shortlisted in three categories in the Whatuni Student Choice awards.

The awards shortlists are compiled purely from feedback from university students and in total over 36,000 students across the country have contributed to the process.
Teesside University is shortlisted for the top prize in three categories – University Facilities, Student Support and Students’ Union.

The winners will be announced at an annual awards ceremony on 19 April.

Teesside University has invested heavily in its campus in recent years as part of its commitment to providing the best possible student and learning experience. The University also recently announced its £300m Campus Masterplan which provides a blueprint for how the University campus will develop over the next ten years.

Upcoming projects include a £12.5m Student Life Building to bring all student facing services together in one location, significant transformation of student accommodation, the first phase of developing a new home for Teesside University Business School, and the £22m National Horizons Centre, a biomedical research, education and skills facility at the University’s Darlington campus.

In addition, the award-winning Students’ Union, which received a Gold accreditation in the 2017 Best Bar None awards, is having a £3m refurbishment as part of the Campus Masterplan. This builds on significant investment to further improve the facilities in recent years.

The University places students at the heart of everything it does and provides a range of support mechanisms through Academic Schools, Student and Library Services, Students’ Union, Counselling Service and Student Advisors. It forms part of the University’s drive to create an inspirational and stimulating learning culture which provides the facilities, technologies and support for effective learning and development.

Teesside University is also accredited with the Investors in People Gold status in recognition of the commitment of its staff to deliver the University’s vision, values and strategy.

Malcolm Page, Chief Operating Officer at Teesside University, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for the three awards and it demonstrates that our students are extremely positive about the experience they have here.

“The fact that these awards are based solely on student feedback is extremely pleasing and is recognition for our commitment to providing the best possible student and learning experience.

“Our ambitious Campus Masterplan is already underway and I believe it will create a campus environment to rival any in the country.”

Tom Platt, President Education at Teesside University Students’ Union, added: “We are committed to engaging with our students and reacting positively to their feedback. This shortlisting is fantastic recognition and we can be proud of yet another accolade for the Students’ Union.”
