coulby newham mums get all the love for mother's day

The Parkway Shopping Centre, Coulby Newham recently invited local school children to put pen to paper and write a poem for their Mum for Mother’s Day.

Over 250 poems were received from budding poets from Overfields Primary, Marton Manor Primary and Lingfield Primary ranging from amusing to serious, rhyming and free verse but all shared the same sentiment – the child’s feelings towards their Mum.

“The poems were of an exceptionally high quality which made picking a winner in each of two age categories – 5-7 and 8-11 - exceptionally difficult,” says Zoe France, Manager of the Parkway Shopping Centre.

“Eventually, we chose two excellent poems – one written by Nelly May McCormick from Overfields Primary - winner of the 5-7 age group - and Emma Watson from Lingfield Primary – winner of the 8-11 age category. We also decided that the school submitting the best poems was Overfields Primary.”

Emma Watson – winner of the 8-11 age category - and her mother Erica were presented with their prizes of £25.00 Gift vouchers on Thursday, 15th March at a special presentation at Lingfield Primary assembly.

Nelly May and her mother, Lisa Roberts were presented with their prizes - a £25.00 voucher for themselves and a £25.00 voucher for their mother – at the Overfields Primary School’s morning assembly on Friday, 16th March. Along with Tracy Watson – Headteacher , who was presented with a cheque for £100 to acknowledge the overall quality of their entries from the school.

All the poems were posted on the Centre’s Facebook and visitors invited to like their favourite poem. The poem with the most likes on Thursday, 9 March was Millie Fawcett from and she won a £25 for herself and her mum.



Local solicitors waive fees for Teesside Hospice Will Month

Throughout January 2019, participating solicitors are offering a simple Will writing service whereby usual solicitors’ fees will be waived and instead a customer donation to Teesside Hospice will be made.
