parkway shopping centre in coulby newham is a full house

The Parkway Shopping Centre has announced its officially a full house, as it gets ready for Christmas.

Nationwide the retail sector has struggled in recent years, with shopping centres reporting an average -6.3% down on footfall YOY. The community shopping centre, located in Coulby Newham and owned by landlord Ellandi, has continued to increase its footfall every year and attract national retailers.

Zoe France, Centre Manager explains; “With the last of the units being let to Cleveland Fire Support Network and Fire Brigade, promoting winter warmth and giving away FREE smoke detectors, we can officially state we’ve let all our stores. It’s something we are massively proud of, as we’re bucking the trend of poor occupancy rates and footfall, in shopping centres across the country, we have welcomed Franks Factory Flooring and The Works to the Centre this year and are trading well across the Centre.”.

Zoe, who joined the Parkway in December 2015, puts much of the success down to the strong community links the centre has forged and the mix of both large nationals and smaller independent stores.

Zoe continues “I think the reason why we have grown, where other shopping centres have struggled this year, has a lot to do with being pro-active and the community engagement which we carry through every part of the business. From working with charities such a s Remembering Rebecca and TFM’s cash 4 kids, to helping those people in the Coulby Newham area with our free community bus, which runs on a Monday and Friday and the neighbourhood litter pick, which helps clean up the Hemlington Lake area, we’re always trying to improve people’s lives.

There’s no doubt these are challenging times to be in retail with all budgets under scrutiny, but by listening to our shoppers, putting on events we know they’ll love and offering great value, we’re giving them everything under one roof”.

As the centre enters its busiest shopping period, retailers on the mall have been joined by Father Christmas who has taken up residence, every weekend, up until the big day, in his special bauble grotto, located outside Home Bargains, and visits are FREE.

The centre has pledged to continue its local community work in 2019, both within the centre and the surrounding area.

“We don’t just reach out into our community we physically go out and make a difference. Says Zoe Every Christmas we like to volunteer as an extra pair of hands for a worthy cause. This year I’ll be volunteering at the Homeless Café located on Princess Road Middlesbrough and also helping out at the Christmas Party of Middlesbrough at Home, which helps keep the elderly in their own home for as long as possible.

We’re hopeful that as well as being a busy year for all of the staff, retailers and shoppers at the Parkway, its also a rewarding one.”
