About the event...

Scandinavian House was a Swedish Mission Church on Linthorpe Road. In the early 60s it's new Swedish designed, modernist building opened on this site, featuring an unusual stained glass window.

Now a Community Art Studio, a new leaseholder was keen to find out more about it's history. Knowing it was a hidden gem in Teesside, she contacted design historian, Sean Sims, a professional and qualified design historian with expertise in 20th century design. His professional judgement was that the stained glass window in particular is of significant architectural merit. He has had its significance supported with a second opinion by a Swedish glass expert, Andy McConnell, who also recognised its importance.

In this talk, raising funds for the window's protection, Andy McConnel of the BBC TV's Antiques Roadshow will speak about the Swedish glass.

He will address how this incredible glass installation piece, previously overlooked, is actually of real importance. It is said to be perhaps the most important piece of post war architecture in Middlesbrough and a rare treasure for the town.
